Melamine

  Melamine1.Scientific name: 2,4,6-triamido- 1,3,5-triazine
Alias: Melamine, cyanuramide or 3 polyamide
English Name: Melamine used as heterocyclic organic chemical raw material
2.Physical and Chemical Properties
※ Molecular Formula: C3N6H6
※ Molecular Weight: 126.13
※ Appearance: white single crystal or white powder
※ Density: 1.573×103kg/m³(25℃)
※ Melting Point: 354℃
※ Melamine is soluble in glycerine, pyridine, hot ethylene glycol, ethanolamine, acetic acid, and formaldehyde, but insoluble in ether and carbon tetrachloride.
※ Melamine is alkalescent, with its dissociation constant of KB = 1.0109, and can generate salt when reacting with acid.
※ Under the condition of acidity and boiling through heating, melamine and water undergo hydrolysis reaction to generate cyanurodiamide, cyanuric acid monamide, and cyanuric acid.
※ In case that melamine is heated in the environment of high temperatures or inadequate ammonia partial pressure, it will be deaminized to generate primary amine, melem and melon.
3. Application
Melamine, an organic chemistry intermediate product, is widely used in coatings, medicine, building materials, papermaking, leather, textile, etc.
The melamine and formaldehyde undergo to generate melamine - formaldehyde resin (one of amino resins). Melamine resin is characterized by heat resistance, water resistance, aging resistance, chemical reagent resistance, electric arc resistance, high luster, high density, and high hardness, which is an important chemical raw material used in industries of plastic, coating, wood, papermaking and textile.
